Our 2nd episode of the Turtle Talk was such a fun one and we gained such great insight from former Terp and Terrapin Club President Scott Weitz! Scott is the perfect representation of an all around Maryland fan as he has been dedicated since 1897! Scott has completely transformed the alumni experience for former Terps through his contributions as Terrapin Club President! One of the most interesting programs he created from scratch was Backstage Pass. This program allows Terrapin Club members to have access to vip experiences such as attending Basketball practice, doing the coin toss at Football games, and getting an exclusive tour of the Jones Hill House, the new million dollar football facility! He has also created a restaurant discount program which allows members to gain discounts to a variety of places centered around College Park and surrounding areas. All of these incentives have created an environment to make alumni feel like they are getting something out of their donations to Maryland first hand. Scott’s daughter, Ryan is now following in his footsteps as a current Terp carrying on the Weitz legacy. Scott makes frequent trips to College Park for his huge football tailgates, attend frequent Terrapin club meetings, and to visit her daughter and soak up all of the University of Maryland he can get! It was also so interesting to hear his perspective on the iconic Maryland Women’s Basketball game against Iowa as he got to sit court-side and watch the infamous Caitlin Clark. He sits courtside for every men’s Basketball game but this was one of his for Women’s Basketball and was a super exciting time! Scott has inspired many students to stay involved with Maryland long term even after they graduated and has given them an easy outlet to be able to make that happen. Maryland has such a great fan culture with students and just as many alumni and this is all because of people like Scott!
